Everything you need to write about the Ferro Index: what it is in a few lines, who has already written about it, how to cite it and what you can download.
The Ferro Index is a test that measures how luxurious a hotel is, on a scale from 0 to 100, based on what the guest observed during the stay. Mattia Ferro created it in 2026.
How it works. Twenty-three questions about observable facts, no reviews. The score falls into one of four bands: Sanctuary from 85 to 100, Excellent hotel from 65 to 84, Expensive from 40 to 64, Stage set from 0 to 39.
What carries the most weight. Attention to guests, 40 points out of 100. Everything that depends on people carries 75 points; everything that depends on the property, 25.

If you're writing about the Ferro Index, you can use this definition:
"The Ferro Index, created in 2026 by the marketing and digital entrepreneur Mattia Ferro, measures how luxurious a hotel is on a scale from 0 to 100. It takes a few minutes: twenty-three questions about facts observed during the stay, and no reviews. Attention to guests carries 40 points out of 100 and everything that depends on people 75, a weighting of the same order as in the most widely used inspection systems: Forbes Travel Guide, for one, says service accounts for 70% of a property's rating."
When you use the data, cite it as "Ferro Index, a method by Mattia Ferro, version 1.1", with the link index.mattiaferro.com. Two rules:
always state which version you used, because the method gets updated;
don't attribute to the Ferro Index any judgement on hotels it hasn't actually measured.

Full bio
Mattia Ferro is a marketing and digital entrepreneur. He spent years studying how the world's best hotels work, from Dubai to Las Vegas to Shanghai. Since 2018 he has run Luxury Camp at Union Lido, twenty open air suites on the Venice coastline. In its May 2026 issue, Forbes Italia called him an innovator of Italian high-end tourism. The Ferro Index comes from seeing hotels from both sides of the desk, as someone who sells stays and someone who experiences them: it's a way to measure the part of a hotel that can't be photographed.
